As well as teaching physical education, I also get a unique opportunity to see students in the classroom. Throughout the semester in Life Skills, we discuss a gambit of information. Most recently the topic of sleep has come up multiple times at different grade levels.

KidsHealth.org is a resource that I use to empower students to research those phrases they may hear from the adults in their life, such as: "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day;" or "You need to eat your greens before you leave this table." But what are you saying about sleep?

Did you know that your chid has higher anxiety with a lack of sleep? It could be that they don't perform well at school. It may also lead to an increase in food consumption. Regardless, sleep is VERY important and your child should be getting at least 8 hours of sleep, if not more! I encourage you to talk with your children about their healthy choices, and if you are struggling to find the answers visit the link above labeled "RESOURCES."

Kid's health is at an all time low. So many societal factors are contributing to the rapid decline of today's youth. Currently I am reading a book that I feel all parents should read. The facts are there and the teachings are simple, the challenge awaits parents AND children to make the change to improve their health. Childhood obesity is on the rise and Type 2 diabetes continues to plague those not being mindful of what they are putting in their bodies. Statistics say that if a child born around 2000 develops type 2 diabetes by the age of fifteen, it will take FIFTEEN years off of their life. A males projected age would be 60 rather than 75 and a females would be 65 rather than 80! Please do what you can and have a look at this diet/habit and life changing book! Living healthy starts with what you are eating!

FROM The Great Physician's Prescription for Children's Health - Jordan Rubin
The Seven Keys are:
1...Teach Them to Eat to Live.
2...Supplement Their Diets with Whole Food Natural Supplements.
3...Introduce Your Children to Advanced Hygiene.
4...Condition Their Bodies with Exercise and Body Therapies.
5...Reduce Toxins in Their Environment.
6...Help Them Avoid Deadly Emotions.
7...Lead Them to Live a Life of Prayer and Purpose.

I am looking forward to researching a couple of these myself! Come back and have a discussion about it!
